Children's Afternoon Tea in Surrey

Afternoon Tea, but built so the youngest guest is as happy as the oldest one. Nobody negotiating over cucumber sandwiches.

At Mandira's Kitchen, Afternoon Tea is served in a 400-year-old barn above Silent Pool, and there is a gentler version for children alongside the full spread for the grown-ups. Scones, sweet things, and food that is interesting without being a battle.

Plenty of room on the patio for restless legs and the family dog, the short Silent Pool trail two minutes away to run off the cake, and a setting that makes a birthday or a treat feel like an occasion.

The place

A barn above one of England's strangest pools

Silent Pool is a spring-fed chalk quarry on the Albury Estate, so still and clear it looks lit from below. Tennyson came here to think. Agatha Christie's car was found at Newlands Corner in 1926. There is a legend about a girl called Emma and a king on a horse. Our barn sits on the track just above all of it, where pilgrims once walked and cardamom now drifts across the hills by mid-morning.
